December 13 2023 – Qt-DAB 6.30 update

Today Jan Van Katwijk released a minor update to Qt-DAB 6.30.

What’s new?

  • Deselecting a service in the ensemble list no longer turns that service name into black instead of white as all other services. It didn’t look well in dark themes.
  • You can change the colour of the services in the .qt-dab.ini file.
    Simply add a line like fontColor=yellow in the [General] section. This option will also be added to the Configuration and control widget soon.
  • Minor code changes.

What’s new?

  • The ‘favorites’ now have a separate widget, which is more user friendly.
    This feature was also added to Qt-DAB version 4 and 5!
  • Qt-DAB 6.30 has two versions. 6.30.exe can only be used with RTLSDR V4
    and 6.V3.exe can only be used with RTLSDR V3!
  • Older versions 4 and 5 cannot use RTLSDR V4.

November 26 2023 – QIRX 4.1.3 released

Clem Schmidt’s QIRX 4.1.3 maintenance release has been launched.

Mind: QIRX 4 is not free. You need a licence key.
Make sure you do have your licence key at hand when installing an update.
QIRX might ask you to input it.

What’s new in QIRX 4.1.3? (Abridged from Clem’s QIRX History page)

QIRX 4.1.3
  1. The site names are now shown in the TII tab.
  2. Find the serial number of your hardware in the Connection tab.
  3. The short name of the ensemble is displayed in the ensemble tab in brackets.
  4. An equalizer option for the Constellation widget has been added.
  5. The tone generator in the Options tab now works properly. Handy to adjust your antenna.
QIRX 4.1.3

A “pseudo service”, called “zzz” has been added, showing the unused CU’s of the multiplex.
Symbols in use for the the selected service in the Main Service Channel (MSC) have been added.
QIRX 4.1.3 works well with RTLSDR V3 AND V4.

November 15 2023 – Qt-DAB test versions

Qt-DAB 6.25 has some issues with RTLSDR V4 vs V3. Yesterday Jan uploaded two test versions on his github page: setup-qt-dab32-6.25.exe runs well with V4 but not V3, setup-qt-dab32-6.V3.exe runs well with V3 but not V4.

The “new” RTLSDR V4 device requires a library that is compatible with – through different from – the older libraries. Since there were comments that Qt-DAB with the “new” library was deaf.
For a fair test I created two versions of the Windows installer for Qt-DAB, one with the “old” library (the one with V3 in its name) and a version with the “new” library for V4 versions.
(Of course the V3 supported version will not work with RTLSDR V4 devices).
The versions can coexist, however, their appearance will be the same, after all it is just for testing.
